I have a very bad memory so bear with me but here is what i remember listening to in 2007:
These are the albums I was listening to this year:
Peter Bjorn & John - Writers Block
This Album blew my mind when I first heard it. It is just a perfectly written well flowing album. Great indie rock with a touch of electronica with a touch of folk all topped with a healthy serving of pop. This was my favorite album throughout 2007.
Tracks of note:
Amsterdam
Up Against The Wall
Lets Call It Off
The Chills
Kenna - Make Sure They See My Face
When Kenna's first album came out everyone i know was listening to it non stop. Shortly after "New Sacred Cows" release everyone i know was burned out on Kenna. I think this guy is a genius though. I never got tired of the first album so when I was at Target and saw this album for under $10 bucks I scooped it without hesitation. Kenna work closely with the Neptunes and you can really hear their influence on this album. Make Sure They See My Face has all the introspectiveness and deep meanings that New Sacred Cow had but it also has a touch of dance sensibility to it. There are some beats on here that are more for shaking your ass then gazing at your shoes.
Tracks Of Note:
Static
Baptized In Blacklight
Loose Wires
Face The Gun/Good Luck
Be Still
Wide Awake
Brand New - God & The Devil Are Raging Inside Me
Oh my god! I really liked Brand New before this album came out. It took a few years for this album to be released but it was well worth it. When their previous album "Deja Entendu" came out i almost wore my copy out. 3 years later they came with "God & The Devil Are Raging Inside Of Me". This is some good emo/indie/punk rock. Pretty depressing (just the way i like my rock)
Tracks of note:
Jesus Christ
Handcuffs
Luca
Degauser
Lily Allen - Alright, Still
I had heard of Lily Allen but i thought she was just some pop product from the other side of the pond. I basically thought she was the UK's version of Brittney or Christina. Then I saw a video on youtube of Terry Hall & Lynval Golding of the Specials doing the Special's song "Gangsters" live with Lily and I thought to myself: "Well if Terry Hall says she is cool then i believe him". So I gave her a listen and I must say that i enjoy her album. It has many influences from dancehall, to ska, to pop, to rock. Its a damn fine album.
Tracks of note:
Smile
Alfie
Friday Night
Take What You Take
UNKLE - War Stories
This has been a big year for UNKLE. Well its been busy for them but a big year for me concerning UNKLE. I had first found UNKLE shortly after the first album came out in 1998. UNKLE has this power to tell amazing stories with their music. For "War Stories" they teamed up heavily with Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age. They also chose to record the album in the United States' Southwest. All these elements gave the album a much more rock feel than the previous albums. To top it all off I was able to see them play at the Vegoose 2007 festival in Las Vegas Nevada. That show was their last US show for their most recent tour and was their first "official" tour as UNKLE. The album is great as always. UNKLE has never let me down, EVER!
Tracks of note:
Chemistry
Hold My Hand
Keys To The Kingdom
Price You Pay
THE WHOLE FUCKING ALBUM!!!
Daft Punk - Alive 2007
DAFT MOTHERFUCKIN PUNK!!!!!!!!! I have always been a fan of Daft Punk for as long as i can remember. They are electro-gods. If , when listening to Daft Punk, you do not get the urge to dance then you better check yourself cause there is something seriously wrong. This album, to be honest, isn't one I have heard yet. What?!?! how can i put it on my list then?!?!? Well its cause I don't have to listen to the album i lived it. This album is a live album that was recorded at their show in france. No I wasn't in france to see them play, though that would have been awesome!!! They were the Day 1 headliner at Vegoose. The set is basically the same the only differences between what i saw and what is on this album are the intro and outros. Basically Daft Punk took this album and tossed and extra intro and outro on it for the Vegoose stop. BTW the Vegoose show that I saw was the last stop of the Alive 07 tour and also the last time Daft Punk used the Pyramid.
